Band-Aids and Kitchen Cabinets

So, I thought I would share this little antedote about Kenzie with you all. Yesterday, when I went to the store, I thought I would be super cool mommy and get the girls some new band-aids. I bought a box of Littlest Pet Shop and a box of Hello Kitty.

When Kenzie saw the Littlest Pet Shop band-aids she went crazy! She was so excited about them. She wanted one on RIGHT THEN! She talked me out of three. She had legitimate boo boos on her fingers and one "psuedo" boo boo on her arm. She asked me for more, but I told her no and she would have to wait til she had another boo boo. I put the box back on the kitchen cabinet (out of little children's reach) and went about the nightly routine.

The girls had been put to bed, Brad and I had watched a movie downstairs in the basement and we were heading upstairs for bed. Everything seemed to be normal until I went in Kenzie's room to check on her. Not only was she awake but she now had band-aids on every single finger and both thumbs. She was so busted in so many ways, all she could do was give me that deer in the headlights look. She also mumbled out something about "my fingers were hurting..." but it was a feeble attempt at best.

I was angry with her, but mostly frustrated. I just told her I was very sad, and I would talk to her about it in the morning. The frustration is in her sneakyness and just continuing to do something she's not supposed to do.

1. She got up out of bed and snuck downstairs to the kitchen.
2. She had to get her step stool out of the bathroom to reach the kitchen counter.
3. She knows "if it's on the counter, she's not supposed to touch it."
4. I had already told her numerous times through out the evening, No more band-aids.

So, I was angry with her mostly for getting into something on the counter. I don't know why she can't follow that rule. Ugh! It was pretty funny though to see that many band-aids on her fingers.

New Room and a Big Girl Bed

My 3 year old was still sleeping in her crib until this week. She finally figured out she could climb out of the bed. Everytime she climbed out she went wandering around the house. The wandering wouldn't have been so bad if she could keep crap out of her mouth.....which for some reason she can't. I had to call the stupid poison control because she tried to brush her teeth with acne medicine....
The poison control person said she would be fine, but her mouth might be a little irritated. Brad says: "Well at least she won't have pimples on her teeth." Ha ha!

So.....anyway.... we knew it was time for her to move out of the nursery and have her own room and a big bed.

Luckily her crib evolves into a nice double bed, so we spent today setting up her new room. It turned out really really cute and she absolutely ADORES it. We were so glad that she did, and so far so good, she hasn't tried to crawl out of bed and go wandering.....we do have a tension gate on the door though.
UPDATE: She has gotten out of bed twice....this last time she wandered down the stairs to where we were watching t.v. She had managed to climb out of bed, over the gate, and was down to just a diaper...where or where had the jammies gone? So....I took her back up to her bed, changed her diaper, got her dressed. Took the chair out of the room she used to climb over the gate, re arranged the bed, and then Brad comes in and lays down with her. Hopefully she'll go to sleep with him in there with her...we'll see.

Wish us good luck with the big change!

Kids Can be Just so Darn Cute

I have to talk about my oldest daughter today. She just did some things recently that were just so cute! At least to me...

She has just rediscovered Elmo. She really loved watching Elmo when she was a year old and then just kind of fazed out on him. Now she is asking to watch her Elmo videos again and last night she went and picked out her Elmo doll to take to bed.

As she was walking to the stairs she passed the hall table where I have two bud vases full of roses from our garden. She put Elmo up to the flowers so he could smell them. "There Elmo, smells good", she said and then proceded to climb up the stairs to her room. It was one of the cutest things I've seen her do in a long time. I guess you would just have had to have seen it for yourself.

Tonight we took them both to Wally World to get new shoes. They have outgrown their sneakers and needed new ones. After shopping we went to Ci Ci's to eat and then to the pet store. Kenzie loves to look at all the animals. She likes all of them: fish, snakes, tarantulas, lizards, puppies, mice, rabbits, birds. She runs from one cage to another saying hello to each animal. Brad asked to see the Basset Hound that was there and got in the little booth with Kenzie to play with the puppy. She LOVED that dog. She kept saying "Hi, little guy! Hi little guy!" She was giggling and loving on the puppy. When we left she cried her little heart out because "Little Guy" wasn't coming home with us.

I know she misses the cats being in the house. She used to love on Helen and Randall. She would bury her face in them and lay on them. I know they miss being inside with her as well. Allergies just suck. Poor little Lyanna.

Oh something else Kenzie has started doing..she calls Brad. Daddy Brad or just Brad. It's pretty funny, but it's driving him crazy. Hee hee!

New addition to my blog: My Netflix list of the moment and Books I am currently reading. I tend to go back and read things I've read before *usually a long time ago* so some of them you may go "huh?" but that's okay. I have accepted that I'm kinda weird, specially when it comes to what I like to read.

I just finished reading the 4th book of the Theives World Series, a set of books I read when I was in Jr. High. I have to admit it's a lot different reading it now. I am now finishing a period romance by Anya Seton. I don't usually read romance novels but I really like Anya Seton. If you like medieval settings and drama I HIGHLY recommend the novel Green Darkness. I LOVE that story. I think I've read it four or five times. It is rather long and takes a while to get through. Very good love story and I never knew the author was a romance novelist until a few years ago. I thought she was just a period writer. I was suprised to say the least.

Anyway....I am currently reading The Sword and the Mistletoe, The Eye's of the Dragon, The DNA of Relationships, and The Bathtub's Overflowing, So Why Do I Feel Drained. I know, I can't just read one book at a time....I get bored.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was yesterday. It was icky here. Weatherwise that is... it was a nice Mother's Day. Brad's mom was here for the weekend. She flew up from Arkansas on Friday and left this afternoon. I think she had a great visit with the girls...they have changed so much since she saw them at Christmas. Lyanna is getting to be such a litte person.

Kenzie and Brad colored me a card. It is really cute and I love it! We all went to church and then out to eat for lunch. Not too much else. I called my mom and grandma, had a nice talk with them....realized how much I miss my family. Ugh...I need to take a trip home. It's just the thought of getting on a airplane totally freaks me out. I hate having anxiety like that. It's just stupid.

Was supposed to have Mom's group today, but I decided to stay home. I needed a break from all the running around. Some times you just need a lazy day at home. But was it really?? No.... I ended up taking Kenzie to the doctor again....oh wow, I haven't even talked about Kenzie's first real boo boo and having to make an emergency visit to the doctor for the first time. Hee hee!

Kenzie fell while carrying a ceramic bowl in the kitchen. She sliced her thumb pretty good and I thought she was going to need stitches. Took her in to the quickcare place and they just put the butterfly strips and some band aids on. That lasted about a day..... I thought it had gotten infected and thats why I took her back to the dr. today. It's not, she's doing fine, and I'm an overly worried first time mom.

Then we went to the grocery store. I love taking Kenzie to the store. We have such a good time. I tell her what everything is as I put it in the cart or as she points to things. Then she repeats it back to me. You should hear her try to say "avacado" it's the cutest thing ever.
